Murphy, Bernard 1844 Missouri Martin's son, Bernardo Avenue is named for him
Ortley, W.B. 1875 Alviso His mother was a Wade (see previous section). He developed oyster shell trade.
Owen, Charles P. 1861 New York Established San Jose Mercury and was a promoter of "The Tower".
Parr, Jonathon 1846 England Owned Laurelwood farm in Santa Clara as well as 3,000 acres in Los Gatos. Descendants still living in "The Valley". Picture of Johnathon can be here. (As I write this, I am sitting in my apartment, which overlooks Laurelwood school, and is on the old farm.)
Payne, James F. 1854 New York Received government land in Cupertino. Payne Avenue is named after him.
Peckham, R.F. 1852 Rhode Island Judge with a long line of legal descendents, US Courthouse in San Jose is named after son.
Peebles, Cary 1849 Virginia Financier with large Alviso acreage, all in beries
Pfister, Adolph 1849 France During the gold strike built hotel and mercantile business
Pieper, John H. 1867 New York A mining engineer who went on to become San Joes's first city engineer.
Pierce, J.P. 1866 Pennsylvania Mining Engineer, banker, lumber magnate
Plye, Ed. G. 1850 Illinois Was a stockman and later a canner. Owned 200 acres East of San Jose.
Polhemus, C.B. 1849 New Jersey Promoted San Francisco-San Jose Railroad. He also owned hundreds of acres in the city.
Pomeroy, Hiram 1854 Indiana Owned 160 acres of vineyard and orchards in Milpitas District.
Quivey, James M. 1848 New York Owned first frame house and first hotel in San Jose. Had vast real estate empire.
Reed, William Unknown Unknown Developer os large parts of San Jose. William Street is named for his son.
Rengstroff, Henry 1850 Germany In 1859 built a landing at the end of Sterlin Road. This port was used to ship large amounts of produce out of the valley.
Rucker, Joseph, E. 1852 Missouri Leading relator in early valley
Scott, Captian James 1854 England Family settled "Scotts Lane", now a Boulevard.
Snell, Ralph, L. 1854 Massachutes A moiner who owned 800 acres South West of San Jose.
Spring, T.W. 1860 New York A pioneer merchant, his store was located at Market and Santa Clara Streets
Story, A.W. 1851 Ohio Owned 320 acres in Coyote and 1,500 acres on Mount Hamiltoin.
Tafffe, William 1844 Missouri Member of Murphy-Stevens party. Husband of Elizabeth Murphy, Martins daughter
Tennant, William 1852 England Owned 1,200 acres on Montery Road and was the propriter of 21 mile house.
Umbarger, David 1853 New York A miner who owned 138 acres on Montery Road.
Weller, J.R. 1851 New York A prominent judge who owned large Milpitas acerage.
Young, S.C. 1846 Missouri One of the earliest wagon train settlers.
Whisman, John W. 1847 Virginia Early settler in "Old" Mountain View
